　　安娜是一名优秀的布景师，男朋友杰里米则是一位出色的心脏科医生。安娜希望早日与男友步入婚姻的殿堂，却迟迟等不来男友的求婚。 父亲告诉安娜，在爱尔兰有一个传统，每个闰年的2月29日，女方都可向男方求婚，安娜的祖母便是如此。本不愿采取这种方法的安娜，在收到的男友的耳环（她原以为是订婚戒指）后，终于决定趁着杰里米在爱尔兰参加会议期间，向他求婚。安娜踏上了由波士顿前往都柏林（爱尔兰首都）的旅程。 2月的爱尔兰，气候恶劣，使得安娜的求婚之行备受挫折。首先飞机受风暴影响，降落在了威尔士；安娜改乘船后，又因暴雨影响只能在爱尔兰的一座小镇丁格尔上岸。为了尽早赶去准备，安娜花费500欧元请小镇上唯一的司机，也是旅店老板的德克兰送她去都柏林。 他们的旅程同样是事件不断，城市女孩在乡下闯出了不少祸事，而原本看不顺眼的两人之间也渐渐摩擦出了火花……在闰年的2月29日这一天，安娜会向谁求婚呢？
